Psalm 34Bless The Lord At All Times!

With a new year at our doorstep, and quite the year behind us, where do we place our hope? In Psalm 34, combined with 1 Samuel 21-22, we find David leading a group of misfits in their various hardships toward finding redemption and hope in God – the only One who is able to deliver.

As we begin this year, let’s join David rejoicing in our own salvation and leading others toward the same.

Read Psalm 34.

Discuss the Word

  1. Share the Highs and lows of this week.
  2. Does the text tell us to follow or avoid, commands to obey or do, and promises to claim? Explain your answer.
  3. Based on the text, what does God want me to understand/think?
  4. Based on the text, what does God want me to do?
  5. What are three things you can do this week to love others?

During the Week

In order for the Word of God to really take hold in our life we need to read it and listen to it consistently over time. If we want it to move the 18 inches from our head to our heart, we have to slow down and really meditate on it and put it into practice. Below you will find a different question for each day of the week. Slowly reread the passage each day and then answer the corresponding question and complete the action step.

Read Psalm 34 daily before answering the questions:

Monday Make a list of everything the passage tells you about God or Christ.

Tuesday – Make a list of everything the passage tells you about yourself (anything it puts a finger on in you).

Wednesday – Make a list of each example to follow or avoid, commands to obey or do, and promises to claim.

Thursday – If I really believed this, how would I be different?

Friday – Share what you have learned this week with a mentor, spouse, home church host, or a pastor.

Memory verse – Memorize and pray this prayer this week:

Psalm 34:22 “The Lord redeems the life of his servants; none of those who take refuge in him will be condemned.”

Ways to Give

Giving of our finances is a response of worship to God who created us, saved us, and is continually at work in the lives of each of His children to reflect more and more of the character of Jesus Christ. Giving is an opportunity to respond to the gospel of Christ in a way that we can find our hearts freed to reflect the generous heart of God.

“Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.”

2 Corinthians 9:7-8
