Home Church 8/9/2020

Greetings SBC! Today we find ourselves experiencing some of the greatest racial tensions of this generation. Racism is an insult to the Human family and runs directly counter to everything the Gospel represents. How do we respond to all that’s going on? Jesus calls us to Love Him with everything and tells us to love our neighbor as ourselves. How have you loved your neighbor lately? How have you taken part of the racial unrest?

Today is going to be tough and uncomfortable but in the Gospel there’s hope! Jesus died on the cross to redeem men and women of every race, color, and ethnic background. He lives today to affirm the infinite value of all people, regardless of nationality, race, development, appearance, or ability.

So, welcome to week three of our dive into the deep waters of:

  • Christ & Covid – How do we respond to a world in crisis?
  • Christ & Country – How do we respond to a world of politics?
  • Christ & Culture – How do we respond to a world of diversity?

So, prepare to get somewhat very uncomfortable, get ready to be challenged, and let’s show each other grace as we wrestle through this together.

Discuss the Word

  1. How do you feel knowing that you were created in the Image of God?
  2. How have you experienced or witnessed racism? Explain
  3. Where did you go and were noticeably the minority? How did you feel? Explain.
  4. What idols has God been exposing in your own life during this season of racial unrest?
  5. We are instructed by Jesus to “Love your neighbor as yourself” How have you not loved your neighbor? Explain.
  6. How can you apply today’s sermon to your life this week?
  7. Have someone read 1 John 1:7-9 out loud and close your discussion by confessing to each other any racial Sin’s you’ve committed and pray for each confession.

Take action: We live in a diverse town and have the opportunity to meet others of a different culture. Who can you invite, call or zoom and begin learning about their culture? Ask them about their childhood, traditions, values and see how God moves within your friendship.

We recommend first watching the teaching video with your kids. Be sure to sit with them, sing with them and participate in the discussion questions that you will find at the end of the video. In the Parent Guide you will find hands-on activities to help them gain a deeper understanding of the lesson.

Ways to Give

Giving of our finances is a response of worship to God who created us, saved us, and is continually at work in the lives of each of His children to reflect more and more of the character of Jesus Christ. Giving is an opportunity to respond to the gospel of Christ in a way that we can find our hearts freed to reflect the generous heart of God.

2 Corinthians 9:7-8 “Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.”

We will continue to keep everyone updated regarding our gatherings. If you have any questions, concerns, or needs, please contact any staff member or elder:
