Ephesians 2:1-10

Sound familiar? In one of the most recognized passages of the New Testament, Ephesians 2:1-10 is one of the most concisely stated gospel summaries this side of Jesus..

The fusing of the God’s gospel story with our own, being resurrected from spiritual death and hopelessness to life and purpose is the greatest story ever (being) told. Paul exclaims how by grace through faith we who were dead and helplessly separated from God, even in open rebellion and under his wrath, have instead received his mercy, having been made alive with Jesus – even resurrected with him! – were raised up and seated with him! Sanger Bible church, THIS IS OUR STORY!

And even more so, God’s poetic mastermind has prepared a life for us to life out in Jesus which throws boredom and death to the wind as we leave our old ways behind and join the story of God to love God and love others as God mobilizes our own unique stories, gifting, relationships, and locations to share the good news and invite others to the same life.

Discuss the Word

  1. Ask about the Highs and Lows of the week. (Use the popcorn method so it feels more like your hanging out)
  2. Ask 3 or 4 people to share their testimonies of when they came to faith in Christ.
  3. What does this passage tell you about God or Christ? Explain
  4. What does this passage tell you about yourself? Explain
  5. Based on the text, what does God want me to understand/think?
  6. Based on the text, what does God want me to do?

During the Week

In order for the Word of God to really take hold in our life we need to read it and listen to it consistently over time. If we want it to move the 18 inches from our head to our heart, we have to slow down and really meditate on it and put it into practice. Below you will find a different question for each day of the week. Slowly reread the passage each day and then answer the corresponding question and complete the action step.

Read Ephesians 2:1-10 each day before answering these questions:

Monday Make a list of everything the passage tells you about God or Christ.

Tuesday – Make a list of everything the passage tells you about yourself (anything it puts a finger on in you).

Wednesday – Make a list of each example to follow or avoid, commands to obey or do, and promises to claim.

Thursday – If I really believed this, how would I be different?

Friday – Share what you have learned this week with a mentor, spouse, home church host, or a pastor.

Memory verse

Ephesians 2:8-10 – “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
